The TRS Safety Training Advanced Tower Climber course is aimed at providing information and training for workers who need to access and work on towers, masts and structures in either protected or unprotected areas using work restraint, work positioning or fall arrest equipment. The TRS Safety Training Advanced Climber course covers all the areas set out in the British standards, BS EN 8437: Selection and use of fall protection equipment.
The course looks at many of the safe systems and methods of work needed to gain access to working environments in the telecommunications and construction industry.
The Advanced Climber course practical sessions are delivered on outdoor training towers or structures. So students are advised to bring with them appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather conditions and all the appropriate PPE indicated in the course joining instructions
Advanced Tower Climber course approval: This climbing course is a Radio Structures certified course and for those workers needing to gain access on the Arqiva Gateway, This course covers all the content needed for Arqiva certification for working on telecommunications structures.
Certifcate validation: This course currently has a certificate validation for 3 years but some employees or site managers look at yearly refreshers due to changes in legislation or changes in working at heights protocols.
Advanced Tower Climber prerequisites: The student needs no previous experience but must be comfortable with climbing or working at heights. Minimum age 18 and students must have a good understanding of spoken and written English. A fit for work declaration will need to be completed before start of course.
Course content: The course covers all the areas needed for the worker to gain knowledge and experiences at working in an advanced climber environment. The folowing ares are covered within the course content, Categories of Heights-Working at Heights Legislations - Hierarchy of Measures - Hazard Identification - Risk Assessments - Basic RF hazards - Emergency considerations - Access and Egress implications - Correct selection of PP - Daily Inspection procedures of PPE - setting up safe systems of work - Use of Work positioning - Work restraint and fall arrest equipment - Safe climbing techniques on fixed ladders and external structures, masts and towers - basic knots - basic anchor systems - Basic safe lifting techniques.
Assessment procedure The Advanced Climber course has an ongoing practical assessment throughout the course and a questions and answers paper on completion of the course to gauge your understanding of the course content. Assistance will be given for those who may need it.
