About This EUSR Training Course
TRS Safety Training’s Initial Tower Climber course delivers professional instruction for workers accessing protected and unprotected areas on telecom structures using work restraint, work positioning, and fall arrest equipment. This industry-recognized qualification covers all safe systems and methods required for telecommunications and construction industry environments.
Day 1-2: Core climbing and safety systems training
Day 3: Integrated Tower Rescue content and emergency procedures
Day 3: Integrated Tower Rescue content and emergency procedures
EUSR & Arqiva Certification: This climbing course is fully certified by EUSR, MATs and Radio Structures Ltd, meeting all content requirements for Arqiva certification when working on telecommunication structures and infrastructure.

Working at Height Training Course Content
Our EUSR training covers comprehensive modules essential for safe tower climbing:
Health & Safety Legislation:
- Categories of working at height
- Working at Height Regulations and legal requirements
- Hierarchy of control measures
- Hazard identification and risk assessment procedures
- Basic RF (radio frequency) hazards awareness
- Emergency planning and considerations
Access & Safety Systems:
- Safe access and egress procedures for telecom towers
- Correct selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Daily PPE inspection procedures and maintenance
- Establishing safe systems of work on structures
- Work positioning systems and techniques
- Work restraint equipment application
- Fall arrest equipment and emergency protocols
Practical Climbing Skills:
- Safe climbing techniques on fixed ladders
- External structure navigation (masts and towers)
- Ascending and descending telecom structures safely
- Essential knots for tower work
- Basic anchor system setup and selection
- Safe lifting techniques for equipment at height
Hands-On Training: All practical sessions delivered on outdoor training towers and structures, providing real-world telecom tower climbing experience.
Tower Rescue Training (Day 3)
Day 3 incorporates essential tower rescue content, equipping students with emergency response skills for telecom structure incidents. This integrated rescue training ensures climbers can respond effectively to emergencies while working at height.
EUSR Certification & Validation
- Certificate Duration: Valid for 12 months from completion
- Annual Refresher: Revalidate by attending 1-day Basic Climber Refresher course (formerly Tower Rescue)
- EUSR ID Card Included: Course fees include registration for virtual EUSR ID cards (Physical cards may incur a small fee)
- Industry Recognition: Nationally recognized qualification for telecom, broadcast, and construction sectors
- Arqiva Gateway Access: Meets all requirements for working on Arqiva telecommunication sites
Course Prerequisites
No Previous Experience Required – This initial climber course is designed for beginners to working at height in the telecom industry.
Requirements:
- Must be comfortable with climbing and working at heights
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Good understanding of spoken and written English
- Completion of fit-for-work declaration before course commencement
- Appropriate PPE as outlined in course joining instructions
